Hackney City Farm

Hackney City Farm
1a Goldsmiths Row
London E2 8QA

For over 20 years, Hackney City Farm has been giving the local community the opportunity to experience farming right in the heart of the city.

It offers an opportunity for children and adults to get up close to a range of farmyard animals and to learn about where their food comes from and why that matters.

The Farm is also the home of Frizzante @ cityfarm, a café serving home made Italian dishes with an on site deli.

The farm also hosts a number of environmental and craft based activities including pottery, food growing, upholstery and beekeeping.

Running a community project that offers free access all year round, is an expensive business. The farm relies on a number of funders to meet its costs and is grateful for the continued support it receives. It is also supported by a number of small trusts, corporate groups and generous individuals such as Tommy Walsh, who recognise the value of this project in Hackney.

Columbia Road flower market

Columbia Road flower market
Columbia Road flower market and shops are open on Sundays from 8am ’til 3’ish. Columbia Road is in the East End sitting on the edge of the city with Shoreditch to the west and Brick Lane and Spitalfields nearby.

On Sunday the street is transformed into oasis of foliage and flowers. Everything from bedding plants to 10 foot banana trees are up for grabs. The air is intense with the scent of flowers and the chant of the barrow boys “Everthin’ a fiver”. A lot of the flower sellers grow their own plants or import flowers from around the world.
